Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer

Cynthia Cain serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at SmartBank, overseeing Operations, Technology, Data, AI Governance, Digital & Innovation, and all Payments functions. Cynthia previously served as Chief Accounting Officer at SmartBank. Prior to arriving at SmartBank in 2019, Cynthia worked at South State Bank in Columbia, SC, for 12 years. During her tenure at South State, Cynthia served as SVP and Corporate Accounting Manager. While in that role, Cynthia streamlined processes, successfully upgraded and converted the bank’s accounting systems, developed a finance merger program and led the team in acquisitions totaling over $12.5 billion in assets. Cynthia was promoted to Stress Testing & Financial Planning Manager at South State where she successfully completed the DFAST and CECL governance structures, implemented Aggregator/ALM/Credit models, and chaired both Steering Committees. Cynthia began her accounting career when she earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Murray State University in 1995.
