PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – June 13, 2012 – SmartBank recently announced organizational changes and promotions in its leadership.

“As SmartBank grows, we continue to look for ways to become more efficient and effective as a team,” said SmartBank President and CEO Billy Carroll. “Making these organizational changes and designating additional leadership responsibility to these officers will allow us to focus on the growth strategies and market expansion plans that our Board has developed. This is an exciting time for our Bank, and I’m proud of the team we’ve assembled. These promotions are well deserved.”

Derek L. Carrier joined SmartBank in May 2009 as Banking Officer and Credit Administration Officer and was recently promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer. Derek received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Milligan College in 1979. He is also a graduate of Louisiana State University’s Graduate School of Banking of the South, in addition to Vanderbilt University’s Southeastern School of Banking. During Derek’s 24 year career with the Department of Financial Institutions he rose to the level of Deputy Commissioner. Derek and his wife, Marian, live in Dandridge with their three children.

Bobby Castle, a lifelong resident of Sevier County with 30 years of banking experience joined SmartBank in 2007 and was promoted to Senior Vice President, Sevier County Executive. In his new role, he will oversee the development and growth of SmartBank’s Sevier County market. Castle is a graduate of ETSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, licensed appraiser and member of the Appraisal Institute. Bobby has served on many boards in Sevier County including past president and current member of Sevierville Sunrise Rotary Club, past president of Sevierville Kiwanis Club, past board member of Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic, past board member and treasurer of United Way of Sevier County and Salvation Army Sevier County Service Unit. He is currently an associate member of Pigeon Forge Hotel and Lodging Association. He and his wife, Janice reside in Sevierville.

Cathy Reed, Senior Vice President, has taken on additional responsibilities as the Bank’s lead Corporate Commercial Lender. She joined SmartBank in 2006 during its organizational period and has continued to play a key role in the bank’s lending function. Reed began her banking career with First National Bank of Gatlinburg and has been in the banking industry in Sevier County for over 40 years. In her new role, Cathy will maintain her current client relationships in Sevier County as well as assist in the development of new relationships in the Knoxville market. She resides in Seymour with her husband, H.M.
